1b. Professional Communications Technologies - Initial thoughts

I have decided to note down my initial thoughts on this subject after the online adobe connect session I had with my tutor.

The session completely opened my mind up to how many things I see every day which are professional communication, every business or self promoting advert, post or story is a way of communication with your potential audience or client.

We were asked what does professionalism mean to you. I immediately thought about what I do to be professional.
1. Be prepared, there is nothing worse than turning up to teach or have a meeting when you haven't at least thought in advanced as to what you are going to do.
2. In most things I do, i alway like to deliver my class how i would like it to be as if i were the student, I always try to put myself in their shoes, I use the experience I have from my years of performing to know what it is i need to do to help them achieve their goals, not just whatever is easier for me to do.
3. The posts i share to the public, since becoming a teacher i am very aware who is reading my posts, seeing my pictures and who i am openly letting into my life. I need to keep the same persona in person as i do online. I can no longer post exactly what I think about my day for example as it may include information about the people who are reading it! I now only limit my social media accounts to just include a glimpse of my private life.
4. Punctuality, we are all guilty of being late and telling a white lie as to why we weren't there on time, this is a major downfall of mine, I was always late, until someone said to me why is my time more important than the people who were early and are now waiting for me, this is in my head everytime i'm rushing to be somewhere, it gives an immediate bad impression which makes it harder to build up your professional persona.

We also spoke about privacy online. Some people can be very protective down to even giving out their name for their Starbucks coffee (witnessed just this week) but would quite happily post on social media, where they have been or where they are going with the family with pictures, yet they don't want to give out the name for their latte?
I have also found that spam mail is a big issue for people giving out their email addresses, because of so many unwanted emails we may miss great offers from place we do actually shop, or for things we do actually enjoy doing, because we aren't inclined to give out our email address and expand our junk folders. This is a shame and i feel it has ruined this form of advertising as people are fed up with it.

Since this session I have decided to set up a new Twitter, Instagram & Youtube channel to follow my journey through this course.
I have decided to use twitter to post thoughts about the day or something i may want to come back to explore in the future, more of my online thoughts jotter.
Follow me @Lucysblog1
For Instagram i will be taking photos of things relevant to the course, forms of professional communications for example.

Youtube is a very new thing for me this as a whole needs exploring so I will keep you posted!

I am now going to think about all the forms of professional communication i use at work, the positives and negatives and what effects these have.
